Plants ready to hit ground

By BEN CAMERON

THE call has gone out to green thumbs across Cardinia with 1500 plants ready to taste soil at Pepi’s Land for National Tree Day next Saturday.
Johns Hills Landcare and Cardinia Shire Council will host the event and barbecue between 10am and 12.30pm on 26 July.
Mayor Graeme Moore said the state government provided funding for the plants as offset planting for the Neighbourhood Safer Place – Place of Last Resort project.
Council and Johns Hill Landcare will provide the planting equipment and barbecue.
Participants should park at Emerald Scout Hall, 21 Kilvington Drive, Emerald, and follow signs to the planting site.
The site is sloping and could be wet, so participants should wear suitable footwear, wet weather gear, gardening gloves and bring their own drink.
For more information, contact council’s biodiversity officer on 1300 787 624.
