A ton of women’s golf

CELEBRATING its centenary year in 2006, Women’s Golf Victoria recently announced plans to involve all 28,500 golfers in the 380 clubs across the state in celebrating its 100-year milestone.
District clubs including Berwick-Montuna Golf Club, Churchill Park Golf Club Inc-Endeavour Hills and Beaconhills Country Golf Club will honour the achievements of the last century with a variety of activities.
These will include a special tournament, celebratory functions starting with a centenary cocktail party scheduled for 15 February at Commonwealth Golf Club and the launch of an address book illustrating the sport and its players over the past ten decades.
The major event of 2006 will be the centenary tournament.
This is a pairs-based event with winners from each club playing in district finals.
Club rounds will start soon and continue to June with district play-offs to be held at nine venues during August.
The final will be held at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in November featuring pairs from districts across the state.
