JUNIOR netball and basketball teams from the Life Be In It – Sport For All Casey Complex in Cranbourne will tour England competing in their sports during January.
A boys’ basketball team comprising eight players between the ages of 14 and 15 has been selected from domestic clubs including Narre Warren, Kings, Saints and Merinda Park to represent the centre, together with a girls netball team of similar age, comprising nine players from Cranbourne North, Casey District, Scorpions, Gold Eagles, Narre Warren and Hallam.
The athletes will begin their tour in Manchester competing in basketball and netball games at various high schools and sports centres.
During the three-week tour, the team members will play at least 10 games and will also visit classrooms for a cultural exchange with English students.
The squad will be billeted to families with similar sporting interests and some of the areas scheduled to be visited include Manchester, Stockport, Oldham, Bury, Warrington, Chester, York, and London.
The trip is being self-funded, with the playing contingent and supporters working hard throughout last year to raise money via various community fundraising events.
Organisers have also thanked sponsors Linkware Australia, and Nergeco Australia for assisting with the supply of playing uniforms and tracksuits.
