CARDINIA WATERS BOWLS
Celebration corks were once again heard popping at Cardinia Waters after securing a second pennant for the season with a convincing win over Berwick in the Division 8 grand final on Saturday.
Playing on its home green before a large crowd, Cardinia Waters was too strong and led all day; stretching the winning margin to 36 shots after the last end.
Every player gave their all in this fantastic team effort.
Many of these players saw defeat last season in the grand final but a season of hard work paid dividends for the club, who also won the section four flag the previous Sunday.
Showing the way was Club President Michele Bondfield’s rink who won 31-17.
They led by seven at the afternoon tea break, but winning ends of six, five and three shots late in the game saw them dominate in the result.
Also winning by fourteen shots was Marie Stephenson’s rink.
Marie played a stellar season for her club winning twelve out of sixteen Pennant games played and heading the player’s ladder.
In this grand final Marie played with Stuart Tokely, Peter Mitchell and Therese Mitchell.
Both Stuart and Therese also topped the player ladder with Marie.
Mick Knight finished a great season by skipping a winning rink in the grand final.
His season tally of eleven wins from thirteen games played was excellent, in a season interrupted by illness.
He played with Steve Hale, Jim Barrie and Terry Nye; their winning score being 23-15.
There is one more grand final left for Cardinia Waters to win, with midweek side two facing another game with close neighbours Berwick at home this Tuesday.
A report of this game will be in next week’s Pakenham Gazette.
