Titans trump Panthers to jump into second on the ladder

Garfield/Tynong (7/209) gave itself a massive boost by comfortably disposing of Yarragon (122) on day two of round 13 in WDCA Division 2.

At Dowton Park, the visitors got off to the perfect start, as Ricky Mitchell claimed the wicket of Jake Borsato (0) early to have the hosts 1/0.

Mitchell then bagged the next two wickets, further asserting the Titans into the contest by pushing the Panthers to 3/45.

Yarragon ticked away to 5/94, losing Laytten Smith (15) and Lucas Kilday (23) in the process, before Mitchell caught fire again.

Mitchell took another three wickets, including knocking over Daniel Haddad (14) and Tony Pyle (0) to help his side take a quick 5/4 and suddenly roll the hosts for 122.

Mitchell took 6/46 from 18 overs overall to lead Garfield/Tynong while Hayden Porter notched a pair of poles.

The result slides the Titans into the top-two, a promising result with just one more round to play in the home-and-away season.

Western Park (142) slid to third despite being victorious after a scare and holding off Buln Buln (124).

The Lyrebirds were looking to officially punch their ticket to the finals but fell short in the chase after suffering a batting collapse.

Corey Jagoe (31) did his best and top-scored for Buln Buln, but the Lyrebirds were undone by a deep bowling performance.

Connor McMahon, James Allen, Tyler McMillan, Tom Fawcett and Jack Allen all took two wickets each to restrict the visitors.

Warragul (7/241) continues to be the team to beat as the Gulls utterly dominated Drouin (80) and pushed the Hawks to the brink of elimination at Bellbird Park.

The innings never got on track for Drouin, with Jack McConville (29) and John Perry (16) the only bats to reach double figures on the day.

Harrison Radcliffe bowled exceptionally well for eye-popping figures of 5/13 from his seven overs while Patrick Mulqueen managed three wickets.

Hallora had the bye.

Finals positioning all comes down to the last round of the season, a two-day contest beginning this Saturday.

Buln Buln and Drouin will battle it out for the fourth and final postseason spot at Bellbird Park while Western Park will travel to face Yarragon.

Garfield/Tynong will look to continue its rolling momentum into the finals as it welcomes Hallora to town.

Top-placed Warragul will play spectator for the final home-and-away hitout.
