O’Sullivan joy at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

There were a few drops of rain prior to Thursday’s par event but that didn’t stop a sizable field of 95 from gracing the greens at Garfield.

Just the 10 players were able to either beat or play to their mark for the day which is about the normal number.

Best in for the day and winning the C Grade event was David O’Sullivan with a round of plus-3.

Craig Hobson won the A Grade event by a count back from Dean Jones with a round of plus-one.

Frank Hyett , who incidentally shot his age off the stick last week with 71 scored, finished third to the above players finishing square with the card.

Arti Koopman had a win by scoring a square round to beat Michael Carrigan by a count back for the B Grade event.

Joe Tonso who finished third in B Grade was three up with the three holes to play but wiped all holes.

Last Monday a field of 71 turned out for a game of stable ford where Daryl O’Grady had the best of it by winning the A Grade event with his round of 82 net 42 points.

Richard Hobbs got the job done for the B Grade event with his score of 36 points by a count back from Jacob Klein.

A final count back round of 34 points made the prize money cut.

Curtis Duffy scored a pair of birdies on the 16th and 9th holes while Gary Bassett makes the headlines this week with his A Grade victory last Sunday with a score of 75 net 38 points.

Kudos to Lara Tryon, who scored a rare eagle on the par four sixth hole; ranked the hardest on the course.

Saturday was a magnificent summer’s day weather wise with a field of 166 lining up for a game of single stable ford where a count back score of 34 points was the number needed to finish in the money.

Peter McNeish, having a great run over the last month, had the best of it for the A Grade event with his 71 net 40 points.

Steely Mateariki, also a regular in this column, finished third to McNeish with his score of 73 net 37 points.

The B Grade event was a three-way count back on 38 points where Cam McCormick defeated Allan Milkins and John Blair.

Jake Jeffrey had the day’s best result coming up trumps for the C Grade event with his total of 83 net 42 points.

Mitchell Young, a new name, won that day’s D Grade event with a score of 40 points.

Other good rounds to feature on the day were Chris Davies with 75 net 37 points, Matt Wouters with 76 net 36 points and Nick Gray, who scored 74 / net 35 points.

Dual birdies were scored on the par threes by Trevor Thompson and Colin Crowle.
