Banger braves it in the breeze

GARFIELD GOLF

‘Hang onto your hat’ became a common catch-phrase at Garfield Golf Club on Saturday with strong winds greeting the 138 players that faced the starter’s gun for a game of single stableford.

On a tough day for scoring, no A Grade player could better or match their handicap with Brian Seers taking out the top prize with 35 points.

Allan Milkins won the B Grade event with a round of 82/nett 38 points and Mick Jusic returned to the winners list also with 38 points to win the C Grade event.

Michael Banger defeated the in-form Jason Tivendale to win the D Grade event with 36 points on a countback.

A miserly score of 29 points to a countback was good enough to make the prizemoney cut.

Tivendale continued his great results this week after winning last Thursday’s twilight event.

He came out on Monday and won the C Grade event by a countback with 92/nett 39 points then turned out on Saturday; shooting 96 off the stick to finish runner up to Banger.

Last Monday a good size field of 90 punters presented for play with a final countback score of 35 points the number needed to finish in the money.

Ron Seamer won the A Grade event by a countback over Nick Gray with 39 points, with Gray being stiff to lose after shooting a great round of 70/nett 39 points.

Richard Perry, enjoying a good run, also had a nice round finishing third with his total of 72/nett 38 points.

Chris Kondarios won that day’s B Grade event in a three-way countback from Matt Yusof and Tony Mafodda with 37 points.

There was some good golf played on Thursday with a field of 106 turning out for the day’s single stableford event.

Kevan McMillan had one of his best rounds ever at Garfield winning the A Grade event with 71/nett 41 points, one point in advance of Peter Johnson, yet another player enjoying a form surge.

Michael Davey had the week’s best round winning the B Grade event with his score of 81/nett 43 points whilst David Thorp broke a long run of outs to win the C Grade event with 39 points.

Other good rounds were played by Darren Grayson 73/nett 37 points, Andrew Went 76/nett 37 points and Harry Elyasie who scored 74/nett 36 points.

However, all these results were put in the shade after Chris Thorn lit up the course with a brilliant 64 off the stick.

Playing off his mark of +5 he finished with a handicap round, if you don’t mind, of 36 points, which included an eagle on the par five 17th hole.

That night’s nine-hole twilight event was a three-way countback with Matt McCormick defeating Ashley Barrot and Cameron Reid all with 20 points.
