Things heat up in a light-hearted end to the season

A scorching-hot day greeted 61 members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group for the final weekly challenge of the year at Corinella Bowls Club.

It became a light hearted meeting in the end with only one game completed due to the extreme temperatures.

It was a very good turnout of bowlers which forced the group to use all eight rinks at Corinella, making it a bit tight on the two extreme rinks.

But the players managed to get through the morning session without too many problems.

Following the first game a second game was started, but it was called off almost immediately because of the weather.

Lunch was supplied by the group at no charge to our members and was catered by Helen Monckton and Jill Rossiter.

These ladies did such an excellent job especially considering how many bowlers turned up for the day.

They have been doing this for many years and are much loved by our members.

Once lunch was finished, long serving President John Nicholson was called upon to present treasurer Peter McWilliams, and his wife Pauline, with Life Membership to the group.

This was a well-deserved honour for these wonderful people that have given so much to the group over the years.

Raffles were then conducted, before players sat with friends and colleagues for some conversation before heading off for the Christmas break.

The group will be returning in 2026 on Thursday 15 January and will meet up at San Remo.

We look forward to seeing all our bowlers return in mid-January.

To all members of the group, as well as those who have followed our progress, we say ‘Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’ from us to all of you.
