GARFIELD GOLF
Things were cooking early in the week at Garfield after Cam May scored 36 points to score her first-ever competition win at the club.
May – the club’s kitchen host with the most; always friendly and warm and generous with her service – has recently taken up the game and on Monday took out the B Grade event with a handicap score of 36 points.
Congratulations Cam.
On the very same day Darren Grayson made it two wins for the last week by firing a brilliant 72/nett 39 points to win the A Grade event.
Saturday was the traditional moving day for the Club Championships with the goal of moving into a top-eight position for this Saturday’s seeded draw; this is where the championship will be decided.
After a good dump of rain Friday night into Saturday morning the weather remained cool and overcast for the rest of the day as a field of 125 presented for play.
Best in for the day and winning the D Grade event was Jahvis Mateariki with a brilliant score of 94/nett 63 whilst Mat Van Der Horst moved right into contention winning the A Grade event with his 74/nett 67.
Matt Worthington won the B Grade event with his 80/nett 68 and John Curtin took out the C Grade event with a fine round of 85/nett 66.
A final score of 75 to a countback made the prizemoney cut.
For the final top-eight draw for this week I refer all members to the club’s socials.
Chris Thorn scored an eagle on the 10th whilst Matt Wouters scored a pair of nearest the pins.
On Thursday a field of 106 turned out in overcast, cold and yet again a windy day.
David Saint had a very good round of 78/nett 40 points to win the A Grade event whilst Kylie Hoghton took out the B Grade event with 38 points and Jahvis Mateariki, having a sensational week, was victorious winning the D Grade event with 40 points.
A final countback score of 33 points was the number to get into the prizemoney slot.
On a very tough day for birdies just five were scored on the par threes for the day.
That night’s twilight event attracted a field of 45 with Daniel Phillips winning the A Grade event with his 21 points whilst Adam Milnes won the B Grade event with the same score.
A final score of 17 points to a countback made the prizemoney cut.
Luke Dortmans, a new member, won the cash jackpot of $250.
