Blooming good Big Bash at Garfield

GARFIELD BOWLS – BIG BASH

Garfield Bowling Club hosted the first of two Big Bash tournaments for the 2025/26 season on Sunday 9 November.

The Big Bash is a format similar to that seen on Bowls TV, where teams play five games of five ends, after which the top four teams play off in finals.

This event, being held during the Spring Racing Carnival, was themed around the Melbourne Cup, with all the teams bearing the names of significant Cup winners.

The club wants to thank its sponsor for the day, Carpet Court in Pakenham.

Garfield’s weather was not quite up to its usually sunny standard, with a serious cloudburst at the start of play, which settled down into cool and cloudy conditions; it was a challenge, but everyone enjoyed the day.

After the five rounds of play, four teams stood out on top of the ladder.

Those teams then played semi-finals and a grand-final.

The winners of the day were the team of David Bloom (Skip) from Croydon BC, Pauline Summerhaze and Danny Wise from Dandenong Club BC.

The runners-up were Rick Bendzius, Peter Bendzius (Skip) from Keysborough BC and Russell Matthews from Burden Park BC.

A great day was had by all.
