GARFIELD GOLF

The veteran’s tour travelled to Berwick Montuna on October 27 where a field of 63 presented for the usual stableford event.

Our own member David Saint won the A Grade event with his score of 34 points.

Thursday’s magnificent sunny weather saw a better-than-average field size of 115 line up for a game of single stableford where a final score of 34 points was the number to get into the prize money.

Chris Thorn set the benchmark with his brilliance again by winning the A Grade event with his round of 42 points playing off his mark of +2, which included an eagle three on the 10th hole.

Tolly Baharis, having a great time of it recently, won the B Grade event with his round of 80/nett 41 points as well as finishing runner up in the C Grade event on Saturday with another fine round of 38 points.

Stephen Eddy won Thursday’s C Grade event with his round of 39 points.

Keith Edwards scored an eagle three on the 17th hole.

As our course dries out, as per usual, the scoring is of a much higher average indicated by the results coming in.

Other good rounds on Thursday were scored by 73-year-old Richard Perry with 75/nett 40 points, Trevor Thompson, a good consistent player, 77/nett 39 points, and Darren Grayson with 77/nett 35 points.

Peter Bogart scored a pair of nearest the pins on the 8th and 9th holes but failed to convert either one, though he did birdie the 16th par three.

On Saturday, another glorious springtime day saw a huge field of 161 face the starter, where a signed-for card of 33 points was the number to get into the prize money.

A total of 20 players matched or bettered their handicap for the day.

Tom Marshall certainly enjoyed the conditions with a top score of 80/nett 44 points to get the C Grade win.

Tony Phillips was the next best, winning the D Grade event with his round of 89/nett 39 points.

Darren Allen had a good time of it by winning the B Grade event with his score of 79/nett 39 points.

A total of 14 birdies on the par threes were scored for the day, with the 11th giving up five of those.

Both Tom Marshall and Tolly Baharis scored two each for their round.

Leesa Matthews made it two wins for the week by winning the ladies stableford event with her round of 37 points.

Next Saturday is the November Monthly Medal, also the second round of the Summer Cup.

Don’t forget the twilight season commences this Thursday evening.
