GARFIELD GOLF

A decent amount of rain has seen our course really take on a lush green surface with great fairways now in play.

On Saturday, a great sized field of 146 turned out for a round of stableford where a final score of 33 points to a countback was needed to finish in the money.

Harry Matthews was the star, winning the A Grade event with a very nice 70/nett 40 points.

Andrew Harry took out the B Grade event in a countback from Dave Pateman and Greg Wasmund – all with top rounds of 39 points each.

Peter Kelly had the day’s best round and picked up the C Grade event with 42 points, whilst Josh Attwood won the D Grade event with his score of 38 points.

Other good rounds were achieved by Peter McNeish with 75/nett 38 points, Sam Collins with 76/nett 37 points, Steve Kohut (JNR) 77 nett 35 points and Grant McLure with 77/nett 35 points.

David Carricondo scored an eagle three on the 17th hole whilst a total of 13 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 9th giving up the five of those.

Leesa Matthews won that day’s ladies event by a countback from Tina Cowie with a very nice 38 points.

Kerrie Davey was certainly dialed in as she scored the three nearest the pins for her round.

Trevor Franklin also had a great week, firstly by finishing A Grade runner up for Monday’s par event with a score of +1, then turning out on Thursday, also a par event, to get the A Grade win with his round of +2.

Russell Kerr got the B Grade win by a countback from Kylie Hoghton, also with +2, whilst Ron Parsons won the C Grade event with his score of +1.

A final score of -2 to a countback was required to finish in the run down.

Chris Thorn birdied both the 9th and 13th holes.

Back to Monday’s event where a field of 59 attended for the day’s play.

Philip Morley had one of the day’s 40 point rounds to win that day’s B Grade event by a countback from Pat McDonagh.

John Milkins won the A Grade event with the same score, whilst a better-than-average score of 34 points to a countback was needed to finish in the money.

All members and guests are advised that the club’s annual twilight season commences on Thursday, 6 November with tee times available from 4pm until 6pm.

Cost, including a parma for tea, is to be $30 for members and $40 for guests.

Both next Thursday and Saturday are stableford events.
