Walker sets the tone with magnificent hole in one

The week started well at Lang Lang Golf Club, with a fine Tuesday and a field of 79 in the Stableford competition.

Peter Sellers (9) took home A Grade honours with 41 points, followed by Leith Wastle (3) on 38 and Nik Hock (15) on 37.

B Grade was won on a countback by Brian Tolkuhn (20) with 41 points, with Carolyn Cripps (32) also carding 41, and Royce Thompson (22) close behind on 39 points.

The weather turned horrendous on Wednesday, and the competition was called off.

Conditions improved on Thursday, when lifetime member Rob Walker celebrated his third career hole-in-one, this time on the 15th.

A Grade went to Aaron Wiesniewski (5) with 39 points, followed by Laurie Burgess (13) on 38.

In B Grade, Ben Hall (19) had a stellar round, carding 44 points, with Ken McKenzie runner up on 39.

Saturday dawned calm and clear drawing a strong field of 181 players.

Steve Johnson (13) carded 41 to take out A Grade, with Kallan Braid-Ball (13) and Sam Elliot (9) both finishing runner up, each on 40.

High scoring in B Grade saw Lindsay Knowles (21) take the win with 42 points on a countback, just ahead of Steve Fuller (19) also on 42, and Bill Johnson (21) on 40.

Impressive scoring continued in C Grade, with Peter Thompson (28) taking the win on 44 points, followed by Jack Courtney (27) on 41 and Kevin Curtis (24) on 39.

Another front hit midday Sunday, prompting several withdrawals, but intrepid visitors rose to the challenge.

Jared Olsen (20) from Devil Bend claimed top spot with 37 points, ahead of Thomas White (13) from Settlers Run on 36.

Despite the mixed weather, there was plenty to celebrate on course – from stellar scores to Rob Walker’s unforgettable ace.
