LANG LANG GOLF
The week began strongly at Lang Lang Golf Club with a healthy field of 82 players contesting Tuesday’s Stableford competition.
In A Grade, visitor Michael Taylor (13) from Phillip Island GC took top honours with 39 points on a countback, edging out Daryl Barker (11), also on 39, with Kel Dalziel (18) close behind on 37 points.
B Grade was equally close, with Jeff Harrison (25) claiming victory with 38 points on a countback, narrowly ahead of Jeff McDonald (21) and Bill Stainsby (23) with 37 points.
A smaller but competitive field turned out on Wednesday, where Paul Sweeney (27) prevailed with 39 points c/b, just ahead of Anne Wedlock (30), also finishing with 39 points.
Thursday’s event drew another strong field.
In A Grade, Kevin Greenland (15) produced a fine round to win with 40 points, followed by Rob Volk (15) on 38 points c/b, and Daryl Barker (11) again featuring with 38 points.
In B Grade, Charlie Love (21) led the way with an impressive 41 points, from Noel Welsh (20) on 38 points, and Ben Hall (19) rounding out the placings with 36 points c/b.
The week’s main event was Saturday’s competition, attracting a bumper field of 166 players.
In A Grade, Tony Ambrus (7) claimed victory with 39 points c/b, narrowly ahead of the in-form Daryl Barker (12), also on 39, with Luke Kelly (9) close behind on 38 points.
In B Grade, Michael Gee (22) delivered an excellent performance to post 42 points and take top spot, with Reg Whitehead (18) and Josh Rietman (16) both recording 39 points c/b.
C Grade honours went to Chris Caig (32) with an impressive 42 points, followed by Terry Davis (25) on 40 points, and Darren Chatfield (25) rounding out the top three with 39 points c/b.
Sunday’s Stableford competition saw Neville Rangikauhata (15) claim the overall win with 39 points, while Mark Sugden (22) and Sharon Cox both finished close behind on 36 points.
In addition to a busy week of competitions, Lang Lang Golf Club proudly hosted the Rotary Golf Day on Friday, marking an impressive 50 years of this long-standing and much-loved community event at the club.
