Village people take up the tournament challenge

Pride and bragging rights will be up for grabs when the Pakenham Bowls Club hosts a unique event this Sunday with the inaugural playing of the Retirement Villages Bowls Tournament.

Put on specifically for Retirement Villages in Cardinia Shire, the event promises to be a beauty with countless high-quality bowlers residing at many villages around the region.

Several Retirement Villages are permanent fixtures during the Pennant Bowls season, ensuring some great battles will be on show.

Two teams are allowed per village, in two-bowl triples format, with the winning team to receive cash prizes along with a shield and medal as well.

The cost is $15 per player, with supporters also welcome to attend, with $6 lunches on offer for orders placed before 10.30am on the day.

Refreshments will also be available on the day.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Jack Kowarzik and local councillors will present the awards, and a raffle will be drawn at the end of the event.

The Pakenham Bowls Club is encouraging residents and staff of the Villages to come along and cheer and be loud.

Practice begins at 9am with games to begin at 10.

Additional practice sessions are available from 4pm on Friday 29 August.

Contact the Pakenham Bowls Club for more details.
