Hogan the hero at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

It was a miserable old day and there was plenty of rain about at Garfield Golf Club on Saturday which saw a field of just 69 golfers testing their skills in a par event.

Scoring was of course difficult, and for the first time this year preferred lies were in play with just one player good enough to break par.

That player was Matt Hogan who won the B Grade event with his round of +1.

Craig Metcalfe took out the A Grade event by a countback from Dean Shannon with both players finishing square with the card.

Darren Grayson shot 78 off the stick to finish on -2 the same result as Matt Van Der Horst being the two best scratch results for the day.

A final score of -4 to a countback was more than good enough to feature in the run down.

Just three birdies were scored for the day on the par threes achieved by Dean Shannon, Hank Adams and Dylan Skinner.

Thursday’s golfers got the best of the conditions with a course bathed in sunshine and clear blue skies. Hence a field of 100 turned up for that day’s single stableford event.

Best in for the day and winning the A Grade event was Tim Pratt who scored 77/nett 38 points.

Stuart Kent won the B Grade event with a handicap round of 36 points by a countback from Daniel Makepeace.

Daryl O’Grady – having a great week – backed up last Thursday’s par victory, this time winning the C Grade event with a handicap round of 36 points.

A final countback round of 32 points was the number needed to get into the run down.

A total of 12 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with both the 8th and 11th giving up three each.

Monday was another game of single par with a field of 73 taking part and a final card of -4 to a countback was required to get into the prize money.

Two players beat their mark with both gents winning their respective grades, firstly Bob Calderara returning to form with the A Grade win and Trevor McQualter the B Grade event both with +1.

This Thursday is a stroke event whilst on Saturday it will be a 9am shotgun start which is to be followed up by the club’s 2025 AGM at around 1.30pm.

The club will be putting on a BBQ lunch for members to enjoy.
