Barclay on blitz at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

Players were rugged up at Garfield Golf Club this week with ice-cold winds around on Thursday and Saturday in particular.

But the cold weather couldn’t stop the scoring from being hot, with some great scores carded by the members.

Heath Barclay, who usually plays two or three times a week, has had a great month to date; with three second-placed finishes.

Barclay finally finished in the winner’s stall on Monday by taking out the A Grade event with a nice round of 38 points.

He has also scored three nearest the pins over the last month.

Matt Hogan had the week’s best round on Monday; streeting the field in B Grade with a brilliant 43 points playing some seven shots better than his mark of 18.

Mark Delaney, a Sunday regular, also had a good round by coming out on top of the field of 36 with a score of 40 points.

On Thursday a field of 88 turned out; avoiding the forecast rain but with some gusting winds around.

David Manning won the A Grade event with a score of 78/nett 37 points whilst Brad Kelly took out the B Grade event with the equal best score of the day of 38 points.

Yvonne Tisdale won the C Grade event also with a total of 38 points.

A final countback round of 33 points or better was the number to feature in the prizemoney.

Just six birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 11th giving up a pair of those.

On Saturday it was a game of single par which attracted a field of 132 punters eager to break par.

Just eight players were able to achieve it with Ross Mitchell winning the A Grade event with a good round of 78 to finish square with the card.

Meanwhile, Tim Sallai broke a run of outs; getting the result in B Grade with a score of 80/nett +2.

The C Grade event came down to a countback result with James Wallace getting the judges nod beating Arti Koopman and Robert Toth with a score of +2.

Jordan Downes took out the D Grade event being the best in for the day with a result of +3.

Hamish Wait was another golfer to break par with his round of +1 whilst Andrew Harry, Marcus Crossley and Graeme Durran all finished square with the card.

Peter McNeish had a good day’s result finishing with 75/nett – 1 and Dave Pateman also gets a mention with his score of 79/- 1.

A final result of -4 to a countback was good enough to get into the run down.

This Thursday is a stableford event whilst Saturday is a four-ball aggregate stableford event.
