Donations and drama as Magri makes his mark at Corinella

It was a case of strength in numbers for members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling group with a massive turnout of 52 players enjoying the superb hospitality of the Corinella Bowls Club.

A beautiful autumn day greeted the players and – as usual at Corinella – the green was in excellent condition as were all the facilities at the club.

Pauline and John welcomed everyone to the club as Peter prepared the teams.

It was great to have Peter and Pauline back after Peter’s recent drama.

Before going out to play the game, the group held a minutes silence for our friend Lindsay following his passing last week.

Then it was down to business.

Laughter could be heard from across the green as friends became foes for a brief period of time.

But all was in fun as everyone praised great bowling from every rink.

There was not a single wrong-bias bowl on the day but I’m sure the Royal Children’s Hospital will forgive us if that is the case; following Peter’s donation of $500 to the hospital from our great group of players.

Today’s winners on a score of 36 were Rob Jeffrey (3), Lou Magri (S) and Richard Kerr (L), while runners up on a score of 35 were Max Williams (3), Aggie Gratton (L), Mark Hanrahan (S) and Bill Williams (2).

Best one game winners on a score of 19 were Pauline McWilliams (2), Lou Capsalis (L), Claire Sheers (S) and Enid Johnstone (3).

A big call out to the volunteers from Corinella, including Phil, Mark, Rob and Claire, that make every visit to the club a special experience.

We thank these selfless volunteers who keep our challenge going week to week.

Next week we start our winter fixture and we will be playing our first game for the season at San Remo.

Please, be on time as the numbers are getting very close to a full house and if you are in after the books are full then you may have to miss out.

Meanwhile, until then, have fun and stay safe.
