GARFIELD GOLF

Tym Davey capped off a magnificent week by setting the Garfield Golf Club alight with a brilliant six-under-the-card 63 to win the Stableford competition on Saturday.

Davey scored 41 points, as well as adding two birdies on the 11th and 13th holes, to be the best of the 118 players that turned out for play where a final score of 34 points was rewarded with a prize.

A total of 41 points across all three grades was the winning number achieved by Brett Nowlan in the B Grade event while Darren Manley did likewise in C Grade.

Just a total of 12 birdies were scored on the par threes, with the 13th giving up a total of five of those.

The Easter Cup wrapped up last Monday which was the best two rounds played per player over the four available days.

Graeme Coates came out on top with a two-round total of 78 stableford points, two points to the better of Cam McCormick and a further point away in third place was Graeme Sparkes.

Overall, there was a very pleasing turnout for the four-day event with a total of 227 eligible rounds played.

On Thursday a field of 106 turned out in ideal conditions for a game of single stroke where a final score of nett 71 was the number needed to finish in the money.

A total of the 17 players were able to beat or play to their handicap for the day.

Best in was Bob Calderara getting the A Grade win with a brilliant round of 75/nett 63 whilst 83-year-old John Roberts also had a day to remember with his B Grade victory by scoring 82/nett 67.

Stuart Kent, a new name to this column, won the C Grade event with his 88/nett 64.

The enigmatic Davey played well to post a score of 69 nett playing off his mark of -1 as well as scoring an eagle on the par five first which was also achieved by another column regular in Harry Elyasie.

A total of 14 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 13th being plundered on five occasions.

A field of 51 presented for play on Anzac Day with Nathan Hathaway blowing the field away with the B Grade win with a top round of 43 points.

Best in for the A Grade field was Sam Butler with a round of 38 points.

A final countback round of 32 points was the required number to finish in the prizemoney.

Peter McNeish scored an eagle three on the par five 10th hole.

Back to Easter Monday a field of 111 presented where a final countback round of 34 points was required to finish in the money.

Chris James, another new name, came out on top for the C Grade event with his 40 points whilst Graeme Coates round of 40 points ensured the B Grade victory as well as the Easter Cup.

Dylan Skinner won the A Grade event by a countback over Damien Needham, returning to form, with a round of 37 points.

This Saturday is the May Monthly Medal.
