Turbulent day for Waters

CARDINIA WATERS BOWLS

The much anticipated double-header at home on Saturday fizzled out as the temperature sizzled on.

After their impressive win the previous Saturday, side one were comprehensively beaten by a rejuvenated Parkdale team.

The “Parker’s” had made significant changes to their team, and took the game right away from Cardinia Waters winning on three rinks and by a total of 29 shots.

Ray Naylor’s rink managed to win by a single shot; playing with Ian Kennedy, Jill Naylor and Ron Seamer.

Side two was touted as a good chance for a flag during the season, but fell short against Willow Lodge on Saturday in the battle of the “retirement villages.”

They now play this Saturday in the preliminary final against Mulgrave Country Club at home.

MIDWEEK PENNANT

The annual grudge match between Pakenham and Cardinia Waters finalised the season for both teams last Tuesday, when Pakenham beat Cardinia Waters by 20 shots on the Lions home green.

This reversed the result earlier in round seven when Cardinia Waters won on their home green.

Cardinia Waters finished the season in sixth place, just a point above Mulgrave Country Club (seventh), and Pakenham (eighth).

Those two teams are expected to face relegation back to Division three next season.

Cardinia Waters hopes of a midweek flag this season now rest with its Division 5 side that struggled against Berwick last week, and lost by a single shot.

They did however pick up enough rink points to keep them in the four.

This Tuesday they face Mulgrave Country Club on their home green in the knockout final.

The winner gets a place in the preliminary final on Thursday, and the loser has to face season over.

In the game at Berwick the winners were: Steve Hale (skip), Jim Barrie, Del Dance and Paul Brindle who won by six shots up.

Winning by just two shots up was the team of Mick Knight (skip), Stuart Tokely, Therese Mitchell and Jenny Cole.

THURSDAY NIGHT TRIPLES

The delayed finals of the ‘in-house’ Thursday Night Triples were played last Thursday afternoon and evening.

There was a lot of interest in this series played over 14 weeks, and this season saw 42 players fill the green every Thursday evening.

The winners this season were the team of Mick Knight, Len Judge and Sandra Wilde.

They needed a late rally to defeat the determined team of John Cleland, Ron Seamer and Marlene Geoffrey.

Third place was won by Stuart Tokely, Del Dance and Danny Hill.
