Captain Cal cleans up after big performance at Country Week

Casey Cardinia Cricket Association (CCCA) captain Cal O’Hare has claimed his third Glasscock Medal awarded to the CCCA’s best player at 2025 Melbourne Country Week.

O’Hare finished strongly, polling 10 votes across the last two games, to narrowly edge out a strong field of contenders that helped the CCCA maintain its position in the elite Provincial Division for next year.

O’Hare previously won the award in 2010, sharing it with then Officer star Michael Torney, and repeated the dose in 2014.

He joins former Nyora and Devon Meadows all-rounder Matt Hutchinson as a three-time winner of the award since the turn of the century.

O’Hare finished one vote clear of day-two centurion – Devon Meadows opener Lucas Ligt – with hard-hitting Merinda Park middle-order bat Charl Van Den Heever a vote further back in third.

The evenness and depth of the CCCA team was highlighted even further with Shiran Rathnayake finishing in fourth place on seven votes and his Kooweerup teammates Chris Bright (6 votes) and Luke McMaster (4 votes) also polling well.

Ligt and Ratnayake were the early-week heroes for the CCCA, polling all their votes in winning games against Leongatha and Bendigo.

Rathnayake missed the last two games due to starting a new job.

Plans are already being made for the CCCA to make another successful assault on Country Week during the 2025/26 season.
