GARFIELD BOWLS -BIG BASH

Garfield Bowling Club hosted the Summer Edition of its two Big Bash tournaments for the season on Sunday 16 February; with thanks to its sponsor of the day, Carpet Court in Pakenham.

The Big Bash is a format similar to that seen on Bowls TV, where teams play five games of five ends, after which the top four teams play off in finals.

Garfield put on a perfect day once more for the event, with light cloud in the morning and pleasant sunshine in the afternoon.

After the five rounds of play, four teams stood out on top of the ladder.

The losers of the semi-finals, who were relegated to the stands to watch the final, were the Chelsea based “Saint Ian” team, led by Ian Warren, along with the local Garfield team called “O’Shea Can You See”, led by Jasmine O’Shea.

Runners-up on the day were the team called “Peter The Great”, which consisted of Gary Cantwell, Graeme Turner and Peter Dixon, from Mordialloc Bowls Club.

Another Garfield team, “Cunning as…”, consisting of Brian Fox, Rick Sillett and Trevor Peters, held out for the 35 ends of the day to bring home the major prize.

The day was run to perfection by the club’s new Tournament Director, Gordon Moxey.

A good day was had by all.
