KOOWEERUP BOWLS
Kooweerup Division 6 finished the home and away season in fourth place and will now travel to Mt Eliza for the first week of finals.
In the final round the team had a good 89-44 win over Casey Grange.
The very consistent rink of Brett Condron, Peter Butera, Cam Davey and Adrian Wheelan completely demolished their opponents to win 47-6.
Along the way they collected their second ‘eight-shot’ badge for the season which is truly an incredible performance.
The rink of Steven Jenkins, Ian Richardson, Daniel Price and Jim Jenkins, after an even first half, managed to draw away to win 19-15.
It was another tough day for Steve Plumridge, Tim and Mav Katz and Tracey Hill who got to a four-shot lead playing the final end only to lose four shots to finish 23-23.
Top-of-the-ladder Mt Eliza paid a visit to Kooweerup and for the second time this season the result went all the way to the finish before Kooweerup lost 34-39.
Behind for the majority of the game Margaret Royle, Erin Price, Mary Masters and Bec Watts couldn’t quite bridge the gap losing 16-20.
The other rink of Jimi Watts, Jacqui Butera, Rex Alexander and Jason Bellink played a game where scores were level on five occasions in the second half; before losing a measure on the final end to lose 18-19.
Although Kooweerup finished ninth, they were in the battle for the finals until the final four rounds before playing three teams inside the top four.
Considering this it was a good performance all round.
Another round of Friday Triples was played with the winning rink being Peter Bott (Pakenham), Denis Throup (Longwarry) and Denise Hamilton (Drouin) with 35 points.
Close up was the runner team of Trevor Kitchin, Ken White and Colin Finger (Longwarry) with 34 points. Best first game winners were Alan White, J. O’Shea and Mal Newnham (Garfield) on 16 points.
In the second game the winners, also on 16 points, were Jim Garnham, Geoff Barber and Roger Balment (Korumburra).
The elusive most touches award was shared by Denise Hamilton (Drouin) and Ken White (Longwarry) with nine ‘touches’ for the day.
On Sunday Kooweerup played the final of both Club Championship competitions.
In the Ladies final the experienced Joy Jenkins won her second title to add to her Murrumbeena collection. She was too strong for Tracey Hill in the final winning 25-9.
The men’s final between rink mates Steven Plumridge and Tim Katz was a classic example of not giving away a start.
Steve was down 0-11 before fighting back to 13-15 and then falling away again to lose 25-15.
Both Joy and Tim will now play in the Mornington Peninsula Bowls Region ‘Champion of Champions’ event.
