Time now for celebration after Kooweerup scoops the pool

KOOWEERUP BOWLS

The festive season will be that little more enjoyable for Kooweerup after both Saturday teams enjoyed the sweet taste of victory on the weekend.

Playing at home Division 6 had a solid 77-49 win over Rye with the three rinks all winning as they continue their push towards finals.

An even effort by Steve Plumridge, Tim Katz, Mav Katz and Tracey Hill saw them score a 27-20 win. It took them a little while to overcome their opponents but a solid 24-17 win was the result for Steven Jenkins, Daniel Price, Ian Richardson and Jim Jenkins.

Back after a break on the Gold Coast, it did not take long for Brett Condron – supported by Peter Butera, Cam Davey and Adrian Wheelan – to get back into his winning ways scoring a 26-12 victory. Another top effort by Division 8 in defeating another team above them with a narrow 44-40 win over Mornington Civic in a game that was played in great spirit.

Both rinks got good starts only to have the score level with two ends to play but Kooweerup managed to hold on to a win.

Kooweerup’s ladies’ rink of Margaret Royle, Erin Price, Mary Masters and Bec Watts led for the majority of the game only to be one shot down playing their final end.

A pickup of four shots was the result to see them win 24-21.

Kooweerup’s other rink of Jimi Watts, Jacqui Butera, Rex Alexander and Jason Bellink established a 17-5 lead after 10 ends which was narrowed to 20-17 playing their final end.

The team held on for a 20-19 win.

Kooweerup hosted Main Ridge in midweek pennant, who earlier in the season won by 61 shots; this time Kooweerup lost 45-69 which was quite an improvement.

Winning rink for the day came from Jim Jenkins, Charles Poulsen, Ric Lloyd and David Prosser who led all game to record a 22-17 win.

You can’t afford to lose five shots on the first end and then sit on six shots for eight ends; this was the scenario for Mary Masters, Rex Alexander, Stephen Payne and Bryan Walker; who was playing his first game for three seasons, losing 12-24.

Kooweerup’s third rink of Joy Jenkins, Jacqui Butera, Maggie Prosser and Helen Ralph played catch up bowls all game before losing 12-28.
