Mixed weekend for Pumas

SENIOR

State Three: Pakenham 13 v Springvale 17

The State threes had a much better week this week.

Scott Dale started the game for the Pumas and threw two innings with two runs scored against him.

In that time the pumas managed to score 10, jumping out to an early lead.

Pakenham’s relievers struggled against an experienced Springvale who then came back to take the lead.

Pakenham showed resilience and kept the bats hot, staying aggressive on the basepaths, keeping the game close the whole way though with both Ethan Hamilton and Michael Coulthard having multiple hits and Felicity Clissold and Jonah Hughes having multiple stolen bases.

A shoutout to Coadhey Rebbechi on his first seniors hit.

State Four: Pakenham 10 v Springvale 0

Pakenham Pumas State 4 took the early lead and never looked back in a big win over Springvale this Sunday.

It was a tight start in the first inning with neither pitcher for Springvale or Pakenham allowing a run.

The magic happened in the bottom of the second inning after Andrew Mayberry singled to center field, Springvale committed an error, and Angus Peters scored after tagging up, each scoring one run.

Wayne Porter earned the win for Pakenham.

The starter allowed four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking two.

Travis Hough provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Pakenham with three runs batted in.

The number three hitter went two for two on the day.

The Pumas turned two double plays in the game.

Pakenham were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

Angus Peters had the most chances in the field with five.

Wayne Porter, Scott Dale, Andrew Hemmes, Andrew Mayberry, Angus Peters and Justin Mazurek all had one hit on the day.

The game was called early due to a mercy rule with the end score being 10-0 to Pakenham.

Regional White: Mulgrave 17 v Pakenham 1

On a sunny Sunday at home, Pakenham Regional White faced Mulgrave in a challenging game.

Mulgrave’s offense came alive in the 1st, 4th, and 5th innings, securing the win.

Pakenham’s own Lance Llandado pitched an impressive game, showcasing his skill and composure on the mound despite Mulgrave’s relentless offence.

Offensively, Pakenham had some bright moments.

William O’Halloran connected for a hit in the 3rd inning, and Noah O’Halloran drove in the team’s sole run with a hit and RBI in the 4th.

Corey Carter also contributed with a solid hit and Jude O’Halloran took a tough pitch to the back but remained in the game, showing resilience.

Anthony Clissold came in to pitch in relief, displaying strong control and limiting further scoring, while also adding a hit of his own.

Despite the score, Pakenham’s players showed determination and took valuable experience from this matchup as they look forward to their next game.

Regional Black: Pakenham 6 v Blackburn 10

Pakenham Pumas Regional Black Edged Out by Blackburn Red.

Pakenham Black faced Blackburn Red on Sunday, falling 10-6 in a game marked by costly errors that Pakenham will feel let slip away.

The Pumas started strong, with Liam Duncan driving in the first run in the opening inning.

In the second, Deklan White—one of two new additions this season with his brother Tristan, adding another set of brothers to the Pumas—singled down the left field line, scoring a run.

In the third, Liam Duncan battled through an eight-pitch at-bat to deliver another RBI single.

Blackburn gained control in the fourth inning, overtaking Pakenham 8-5.

Despite solid performances, errors hampered the Pumas’ efforts to close the gap.

Brad Jones pitched four innings, allowing 11 hits and eight runs, only three of which were earned, while striking out three.

Gregg Duncan and Deklan White each had two hits, while Liam Duncan and Bryce Haley each drove in two runs.

Tristan White also shined in his senior debut with three stolen bases, adding to Pakenham’s aggressive seven stolen bases in total.

Despite the outcome, Pakenham displayed resilience, and contributions from players like Deklan and Tristan White offer optimism for the season ahead.

WOMEN

Regional Black: Pakenham 12 v Cheltenham 9

Both women’s teams equally had their offence on display for the duration of the game with solid plays made by both teams within each of the innings.

Pumas prevailed against the Rustlers winning 12-9.

Pumas came out strong in the bottom of the first inning thanks to singles made by Jade Taylor and Olivia Garcia scoring a run each, with Johanna Blackler stealing home.

Their lease was extended with two runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to RBI singles by Holly Lunn and Casey Hynes.

Cheltenham rustlers came in to tie the game in the top of the third with hits made from 4 of their women, Michaela, Dee, Annette and Fran.

Once again it became Pakenham’s game when a whopping seven runs were scored.

The biggest blow in the inning came from a single by Emily Williams on an 0-2 count driving two runners into home.

Olivia Garcia began pitching for the Pumas Blacks striking out 5 of the rustlers and and only walking 2. Pakenham Pumas Womens Black piled up 15 hits in the game.

Emily Williams led Pakenham Pumas Women’s Black with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup.

The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Jade Taylor went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Pakenham Pumas Women’s Black in hits.

Johanna Blackler, Holly Lunn, Olivia Garcia, Katherine Walton, and Casey Hynes each collected multiple hits for Pakenham Pumas Womens Black.

Kirby Cannizzaro, Johanna Blackler, Emily Williams, Holly Lunn, Carni Dowsett, Olivia Garcia, Katherine Walton, Jade Taylor, and Casey Hynes each stole multiple bases for Pakenham Pumas Women’s Black.

Pakenham Pumas Women’s Black stole 30 bases in the game. The Pumas were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

Carni Dowsett had the most chances in the field with seven.

White: Pakenham 12 v Waverley 13

A walk-off left Pakenham Womens White on the wrong end of a 13-12 defeat to Waverley Black on Saturday.

The game was tied at 12 in the bottom of the fourth when Waverley singled, scoring one run to end the game.

Despite the loss, Pakenham collected 10 hits in the high-scoring affair.

Unfortunately, Waverley had 11 hits on the way to victory.

Pakenham jumped into the lead in the top of the second when Katherine Walton drew a walk, scoring one run, and Jessica Moulding singled, scoring two runs.

Waverley flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs to take the lead, 9-3.

Pakenham then scored six runs on two hits in the top of the fourth inning.

Jo Blackler singled, Emma Barker and Jessica Moulding walked and Katherine Walton doubled, all scoring runs.

Jessica Moulding led things off on the mound for Pakenham.

The pitcher allowed eight hits and 12 runs (three earned) striking out eight and walking three. Katherine come in to pitch in the last inning to finish the game, three outs were needed to draw the game at 12 all or one run needed to score for Waverley to get the win.

First two batters collectively get hits out to left field and short stop, third batter strikes out for the 1st of three outs needed.

With some sneaky steals by Waverley, runners are now on 3rd and 2nd with the next Batter up to the plate, bam, hit to short stop who fields the ball but isn’t quite fast enough to throw the runner out at home and that finishes the game 13-12 with a walk off for the Wildcats.

Jo Blackler, Jessica Moulding, and Katherine Walton each collected two hits for Pakenham.

Emma, Jo, Jessica, and Katherine each stole multiple bases and the team collectively had seven walks.

Codie Sell performed a perfect unassisted double play in the game, catching the ball at 1st base and getting the runner out who forgot to tag up.

Sofia Fahy was remarkable on the diamond both with the bat and on the field, hitting a spectacular single out to right field and then stealing her way to the home plate.

Her fielding percentage was 1.000 on the day out at short stop, blocking and picking up the baseball with ease.

The women continue to improve each week and are working together like a dream team.

Premier Firsts had a loss 20-2.

Premier Reserves had a loss 22-1.

Masters had no game this week

JUNIORS

Big league had a solid 15-12 win with the bats running hot right through the order.

Rhys was fantastic on the mound though 3 and Tristan was solid in relief to close the game out.

The Pakenham Pumas U14 delivered a strong performance against Berwick, claiming a 12-6 victory in a game filled with powerful pitching and relentless hustle.

The Pumas set the tone early, with starting pitcher Blake proving unstoppable on the mound with Hunter’s strong performance behind the plate.

Over three dominant innings, Blake racked up an impressive nine strikeouts, leaving the Berwick batters with no chance to score.

Blake effectively shut down the opposition, paving the way for the Pumas’ explosive offense. Reliever Eli and Closer Logan both did a great job for a successful pitching day for Pumas.

It was Hunter who ignited the action, leading off with a sharp single to right field that sparked a five-run rally in the opening inning.

Fueled by this momentum, the Pumas kept the scoreboard ticking.

Blake and Noah brought in two more runs in the middle innings as Berwick scrambled to stymie the Pumas’ bats.

In the under-16s state, Lachlan Collier stepped on the mound first for the Pakenham Pumas.

The starter struck out one batter. Oliver Corrigan went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.

Collier, Oliver Corrigan, and Logan Chambers each collected one hit for Pakenham Pumas.

Pakenham Pumas turned one double play in the game.

This week the Tballers had Jo come and join us to give a helping hand with the kids where we did some ground ball work and really tried to focus on fielding the ball then hitting our target while throwing.

We then moved onto some hitting and base running where all the kids excelled and had a great time, Bodie took out the player of the game award due to some fantastic hitting but a mention to Brooklyn for making a fantastic catch.

This week we had Brooklyn, Bodie, Harper, Leo and Caleb from Berwick join in.
