GARFIELD GOLF

It was great weather all week for a round or three, with Thursday’s golfers being met with a few showers.

The sky soon cleared into a fine and mild day for the field of 106 eager players.

Cody Fry had a magnificent day out, backing up last week’s win by winning the A Grade event with a common theme of the week, scoring 42 points of his mark of 11.

Michael Carrigan also played to the conditions by winning the B-Grade event with the same score whilst Peter Diss won the C-Grade event on a count back from Stephen Eddy with a result of 41 points.

A handicap round of 36 points or better to a count back was needed to finish in the money.

A total of 15 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 16th giving up six of those.

On Tuesday Gail Franklin had a great day out winning the ladies Stableford event with, you guessed it, a round of 42 points.

Kevan McMillan was the star of the week, as on Saturday he blitzed the A-Grade field with yet another score of 42 points playing some six shots better than his mark of nine.

A great-sized field of 142 faced the starter in the summer-like conditions with a final score of 35 points needed to finish amongst the place getters, which was achieved by a total of 33 players.

Nick Gray scored an eagle three on the first, whilst Alex Blanck won the B-Grade event with yet another total of 42 points.

Matt Whitehead won the C-Grade event with a round of 40 points whilst Graeme Sparkes had the day’s best result with a great round of 44 points to win the D-Grade event.

A total of 19 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 9th giving up eight of those.

Richard Perry scored a pair on the ninth and 11th holes.

Good performances were put in by Martin Lloyd (37 points off eight), Richard Perry (36 points off eight), Peter McNeish (36 points off seven), Harry Matthews (36 points off five), Andrew Went (35 points off eight) and Graeme Lowndes (35 points off his mark of nine).

Amanda McLure had a day out for the ladies winning Saturday’s event with a nice round of 40 points as well as scoring the three nearest the pins.

Monday’s event attracted a field of 54 punters with Gavin Sharpe the equal best in getting the B-Grade win with his round of 40 points on a countback from Warren Arnott.

Ban Balfour was the best out of the A-Graders winning the event with another round of 40 points.

A handicap round of 36 points to a countback was needed to finish in the money.

Des Kerr scored a pair of nearest the pins on the fourth and 11th holes.

Next Saturday is the Barnes/Fallon Mixed Canadian event with an overflow Stableford event.
