Heppleston scrapes home on a beautiful day at Lang Lang

The sun was shining brightly at Lang Lang Bowls Club as the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group came together for the playing of its weekly challenge.

The group were greeted by John and Bev while Vern and David arranged the teams for the day.

When the players went outside to begin the day’s play they walked out into summer in October.

The temperature over the day was bordering on hot and, as there was no wind to speak of, it was somewhat of a shock to the system with no build up over any timeframe.

But, weather aside, it was a great day for bowls, with wonderful people, magnificent bowling from all rinks and lots and lots of friendly laughter.

Today’s winners on 37 points were Raff Merante (3), Sue Wright (2), Marianne Scales (L) and Tony Heppleston (S).

Runners-up on a score of 36 points were Luke Monckton (S), Jenny Smith (L) and Derek Fenn (3).

Best One Game winners on 19 points were Steve Edge (S), Diane Kessen (L), Robyn Coulson (3) and Gwen Jeffery (2).

The green was in excellent form and Lang Lang’s green keeper deserves to be congratulated.

A big thank you to all those who helped inside and out to clean up including Jenny, Bev, David, Vern, and Laurie.

Also, a big thank you to Marianne and Colin for keeping our thirsty players happy all day.

I would like to pass on our fondest wishes to Peter who is still laid up and look forward to his speedy recovery.

Next week we will once again meet up at Corinella to fight it out for team of the week.

But this weekend will be a fight off between Corinella and San Remo.

Unfortunately, both sides can’t be winners so all we can do is wish both teams well.

Till next week, stay safe and have fun.

-Laurie Bell-
