GARFIELD GOLF
The forecast didn’t disappoint at Garfield Golf Club on Saturday with the weather bitterly cold and wet with the temperature gauge rising to a height of just 12 degrees.
Due to the shocking weather conditions a field of 68 turned out for the day’s competition of single stableford.
Before we address Saturday’s resulting outcomes we need to turn the page back to Thursday’s competition, also single stableford, where Hayden Newnham blew the field away with a magnificent score of 47 points.
Newnham played some 11 shots better than his mark of 17; despite finishing his round with a double-bogey six on the 18th hole.
This is the best competition round achieved at Garfield since May 4 this year when Lachlan Chase shot a 77/nett 58 to win the Monthly Medal.
Congratulations on a great round Hayden.
Back to Saturday’s round now where Nick Gray played one shot better than his mark of seven to win the A Grade event by a countback from Darren Mouser with a score of 37 points.
Jake Went had Saturday’s best result getting the B Grade win with a great round of 41 points.
A final score of 33 points was required to finish in the prize money.
Clint Williams also gets a mention for his excellent round of 35 points playing of his handicap of just four.
Jenny Sullivan had the best of it for the ladies’ event with a winning score of 36 points as well as scoring a pair of nearest the pins on the 4th and 13th holes.
Thursday’s players got the best of the weather with the biggest round for the mid-week comp in many months.
Darren Grayson, the club’s most consistent player over the last few months, won the A Grade event with a score of 37 points.
The aforementioned Newnham won the B Grade event, while Rob Morris broke a long run of outs to get the C Grade win with his round of 39 points.
Deanna Hargreaves, another consistent lady, finished second to Morris with her round of 36 points as well as winning Tuesday’s event with a par round of +3.
A final countback round of 33 points was the number to feature in the money.
Chris Thorn scored a pair of birdies on the 11th and 13th holes to go with his round of 33 points playing off his current mark of +4.
A total of 11 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 11th giving up a total of eight of those.
Kev McMillan kept up his recent good form run by winning Monday’s A Grade competition with a round of 35 points.
This Saturday is a single par event.
