Severe high and damaging winds last Sunday through Monday caused widespread community damage and for most locals that meant two days without power resulting in our club being closed on Monday.

It has become apparent that these types of weather events are becoming the norm and more frequent. It was all a distant memory on Saturday with the September Monthly Medal being played in fantastic sunny weather attracting a field of 138 players.

Harry Elyasie’s brilliant round of 73/nett 67 was the benchmark, finishing one shot to the better of Stephen Barrett and a further shot away to Bob Collins.

A final score of nett 76 was the number required to finish in the money.

Elyasie’s 73 also was the best A Grade scratch result whilst Peter Glasscock had the best B Grade scratch round with his 84.

John Curtin took out the C Grade scratch by a countback with his total of 88 and Stephen Pimm did likewise for the D Grade field with his 92.

Just eight birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 11th giving up the three of those. Kerrie Davey won the ladies monthly medal with a score of nett 74, on the back of achieving a double for the week by winning Saturday’s stroke event with a round of nett 76.

Well played Kerrie.

Van Der Horst finished with the excellent result of three nearest the pins for her round on Tuesday. Thursday’s event was played in cool and overcast conditions for a game of single par with a field of 72 turning out where a countback round of -3 was required to finish in the money.

A final score of +1 was the day’s best result and was achieved by some four players.

James Grant returned to the winner’s list with that score good enough to win the B Grade event and Cody Fry won the A Grade event by a countback from Brian Webster with that score of +1.

Kevan McMillan had a great round for his result of +1 playing off his mark of nine.

Darren Grayson, another consistent performer, finished square with the card playing off his mark of just seven.

The rainfall for the month of August was just 33mm compared to 55mm last August and a wet July this year of 111mm.

This Saturday is a game of single stableford whilst on Thursday we contest the first round of the midweek 54-hole championship.
