GARFIELD GOLF

There was glorious sunny weather all week at Garfield Golf Club with the gauge getting up to 20 which is very unusual for this time of the year.

All the recent weather adds up, according to Jane, to the second warmest August on record.

On Thursday a field of 91 players turned out for a game of stroke with a final countback round of nett 73 required to finish in the money.

After several good rounds, including a recent Monday win, Willy ‘Kia Ora’ Martin had the days’ best round getting the B Grade win with 86/nett 64, while Brian Webster won the A Grade event with 80/nett 67.

Stephen Eddy got the C Grade victory with a total of 98/nett 65.

Andrew Peart, a visitor from The National Golf Club, and playing off his mark of just six, scored the best scratch round for the day with his 77.

With the tees set well back and some difficult pin placements in play, birdies were hard to come by with just a total of five being scored for the day on the par threes.

Andrew Peart scored a pair of nearest the pins on the 8th and 11th holes.

Saturday was a Two-Person Four Ball multiplication event with the best in being Steven Van Roy and Garry Tivendale with a score of 73.

They were three points to the better of Naveen Davala and David Garnepudi in the runners up stall.

A final score of 57 or better was required to finish in the prize money.

For the ladies the best in were Leesa Matthews and Jennifer Sullivan with a total of 66.

This capped off a great week for Sullivan as she won Tuesday’s Ladies event with a great round of 39 points, playing off her mark of 11, as well as scoring a pair of nearest the pins.

A good size field of 70 punters turned out on Monday with the inform Kel Trickey having the best of it by getting the B Grade win with a round of 40 points.

Andy Armanasco won the A Grade event with a score of 39 points.

Next Saturday is a game of single stableford with a shot-gun start at 8.30am with the club providing lunch at the conclusion of the golf which is to be followed up by the 2024 AGM.

Some housekeeping notes to finish with.
