High achievers in the headlines

GARFIELD GOLF

There was magnificent sunny weather at Garfield Golf Club this week who avoided the forecast rain and resulting in good size fields for both Saturday and Thursday competition.

There was a couple of high achievers for the week grabbing the headlines with Robert Harley winning the A Grade event on Monday with a huge 43 points, playing off his mark of 14, equating to a round of 76 off the bat.

The other major achievement was by Kerrie Davey, who won Thursday’s A Grade event, also with a score of 43 points, playing off her mark of 13, which equates to a round of 75 off the stick.

Well done to both players.

Saturday was a game of single par – seems to be a few of these lately – and attracted a good size field of 123 players of which the 21 players were able to better or play to their allotted mark.

Dave Pateman had a great round winning the A Grade event by a countback from David Manning, also with a great round, with a score of +5.

Glenn Wells broke a long run of outs to get the B Grade victory with a total of +4 whilst the evergreen Tony Mafodda won the C Grade event with a total of +3.

Dan Makepeace won the D Grade event by a countback from Tyson Dulloo with a total of +2.

A total of 10 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with Nick Gray scoring a pair of those.

A final score of -2 or better was the number required to finish in the money and this was achieved by a total of 38 players.

The best score for the day came in the ladies’ event with Jenny Sullivan having a great result of +7 for her round.

Kerrie Davey, having a great week, scored a pair of nearest the pins of which she converted both to birdies.

Thursday’s stableford event attracted a field of some 89 players where Dave Pateman, also a player having a hot week, finished second to the aforementioned Davey in the A Grade event by a countback from Robert Harley with a total of 38 points.

John Roberts got the B Grade win with a round of 37 points by a countback from the veteran Greg Needham; who was 22 points after just 10 holes.

Stephen Eddy won the C Grade event with a round of 38 points.

A final countback score of 34 points was needed to finish in the money which was achieved by a total of 16 players.

The dominating Chris Thorn posted a round of 65 off the stick, which included an eagle two on the par-four second hole.

This Saturday is a Two-Person Four-Ball Multiplication event.
