New members take top prize at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

It was yet another week of cold, wet and miserable weather at Garfield Golf Club with the forecast bad weather rolling in mid-morning on Saturday for the Four-Ball aggregate event.

A field of 63 pairs took part, which, considering the conditions was a good turnout.

Congratulations to new members Kimberley and Nick Pellatt who took out the event with a combined total of 72 points, three points to the better of Paul Kaye and Dave Lawler.

A final combined total of 61 points was the number required to finish in the money.

Similar wet and windy weather prevailed on Thursday which added up to a field of 43 hardy souls taking part for a game of single stableford.

Best in for the day and posting an excellent round of 36 points was the winning machine that is Darren Grayson, playing off his mark of just six.

There was a four-way countback for the minors with David Saint finishing second from Greg Noonan, Darren Allen and Curtis Duffy with a score of 35 points each.

A final total of 33 points was needed to finish in the prize money.

Andrew Rose scored a pair of nearest the pins on the 4th and 9th holes, one of which he converted as well as scoring a birdie on the 11th hole.

James Dimtsas also scored a pair of birdies on the 11th and 16th holes; Bob Calderara also did likewise on the same holes.

A good-sized field of 65 punters turned out on Monday with Luke Wilson winning B Grade with a total of 37 points while Matt Allen won the A Grade event with the same score.

A final countback score of 33 points was required to finish in the prize money.

Darren Stanton scored a pair of birdies on the second and 16th holes while Matt Allen did likewise on the 9th and 12th holes.

All at the club were very saddened over the week end to hear of the sudden passing of long-term member Geoff Sinclair.

Geoff and his wife Geraldine always returned to the club for tournaments and special event days to mix and socialise with their many friends.

On behalf of everyone at the club we pass on our sincere condolences to Geraldine and the Sinclair family.

Next Saturday is the August Monthly Medal.
