Nar Nar Goon has continued its dominant form in the WGFNC Veterans competition with the Goon scoring a commanding 11.6(72) to 1.1(7) victory over Kilcunda-Bass at Spencer Street on Saturday.
The Goon has now locked away top spot on the ladder with one game remaining in the seven-round competition, now sitting with a five-zip record with one bye thrown in.
The game against the Panthers was played in greasy conditions, which made life challenging for the players but failed to impact the Goon’s renowned scoring power.
Three first-quarter goals opened up an 18-point lead at quarter time, which extended to 33 points at the major interval.
The Panthers were at their competitive best in the third quarter, being outscored 1.1 to 1.2, before the Goon pushed the turbo-button in the final stanza.
A 5.0 to 0.0 last quarter signed off the game in style and confirmed the Goon as the team to beat for this year’s inaugural Veteran’s premiership.
Livewire mid-forward Shannon Stocco capped off a terrific game with three goals for the winners, while former Pakenham star Jared Goldsack chimed in with two.
The Goon’s scoring options were evident with Ricky Clark, Rob Dobin, Troy Farrell, Jason Francis, Daniel Healey and Lucas Thomas also hitting the scoreboard.
Ben Scanlon, Jason Francis, Seamus Scanlon and Ricky Clark joined Goldsack and Stocco on the Goon’s best players’ list.
Todd Miller kicked the only goal for the Panthers, while Joel Hart, Sean Gibson, Colin Eden, Simon McHenry and Kyle McGregor fought the game until the end.
The Goon heads to Neerim South for its final game of the home-and-away season on Sunday 14 July, while the Panthers host Tooradin-Dalmore a day earlier.
Tooradin-Dalmore was the other big winner on the weekend; registering a 10.13(73) to 3.5(23) victory over Neerim South.
The Seagulls gradually built their lead in the first half, before a tremendous defensive effort kept the Cats to just three points after half time.
The sturdy Jordan Csincsi relished the conditions for the Gulls, slamming home three goals, while two to Luke Whelan and singles to Shannon Campbell, Damon Jones, Aaron McGrath, Ian Rickard and Mark Trounson proved too much for the Cats to handle.
Mark Trounson, Troy Ross and James Wheeler were other standout performers for the Gulls, while Matt Kane, Gabe Marsden and Ryan Muir were influential figures for the Cats.
No scores were available for the game between Devon Meadows and Phillip Island at the time of going to print.
