Round one of the Four Ball Par Championships event was held at Garfield Golf Club on Saturday with 66 pairs playing in dry cool conditions.

Peter Kelly and Brendan Williams had a day out with a great round of +10, finishing three shots better than Greg Wasmund and Curtis Duffy who finished runners up on a countback from Richard Perry and Martin Atkins.

A final score of +3 was required to feature in the prize pool and was achieved by a total of another 16 pairs.

It proved to be a difficult day for birdies with a total of nine being scored on the par threes.

Richard Perry capped off a great week by coming out on Thursday and winning the A Grade event with a round of 40 points; one shot in advance of Peter Medwin.

Thursday’s event attracted what is now the norm, with a field of 102 turning out in fine conditions.

Don Towan returned to the winner’s list by getting the B Grade win also with 40 points two shots in advance of John Curtin.

The C Grade event was a three-way countback with a total of 36 points recorded; it was Russell Kerr coming out on top from Rex Jobling and Nick Gaal.

A final score of 33 points to a countback was required to finish in the money and was achieved by some 21 players.

In another difficult day for birdies, just the 10 were scored for the day on the par threes.

Just 14 players were able to either play to or better their handicap for the day.

Monday was a game of single par and was attended by a field of 79 with a difficult day for scoring where no one was able to finish with a plus round.

In fact, it was a three-way countback decision with a square round, where Alex Green came out on top from James Dimtsas and Daryl OGrady.

Dimtsas made it a day to remember by scoring a pair of nearest the pins on the 4th and 8th holes.

A final score of -4, very average indeed, was good enough to feature in the prize pool.

This Saturday is the second round of the Four Ball Par Championships.
