A huge dump of rain closed out the Easter long weekend, with over 60mm in the gauge and more wet weather returning on the weekend just gone.
Karli Van Der Horst, easily Garfield’s most consistent player over the 2022/2023 seasons with a total of 22 competition wins and an incredible 56 nearest the pins, took out the Easter Cup on the back of a brilliant 78 off the stick, some nine shots to the better of her handicap, to total 45 points, giving her a winning two round score of 79 points, one shot better than a resurgent Tolly Baharis, Peter Marquis and Clint Williams.
Saturday was Monthly Medal day and as per usual attracted a good size field of 139 players.
Longtime Member Dave Lawler won with a score of 78/net 67, one shot better than Matt Wouters, Darren McKerrow and Daryl Hargreaves.
Shane Male continues on with some good recent form by winning the A Grade scratch with a score of 75 whilst Wouters won B Grade scratch with his 81, Ben Balfour the C Grade scratch with 87 and Rod Norton the D Grade scratch with a round of 94.
A final score of net 75 was the number required to finish in the money and was achieved by some 41 players.
As per usual, medal day was a tough day for birdies with just a total of six being scored on the par threes.
Gary Bassett scored an eagle three on the par five first hole.
Amanda McLure won the ladies monthly medal with a score of net 68 as well as winning the two nearest the pins on the eighth and 13th holes.
Thursday’s Stableford event had a field of 103 turning out and was played in fine conditions.
Richard Perry returned to the winners list by winning the A Grade event with a score of 39 points whilst Brian Webster got the B Grade win with the same score.
George Fatouros got the C Grade victory with a round of 38 points.
A final countback score of 32 points was required to finish in the money and was achieved by some 18 players.
Baharis had a score of 38 points off his rapidly shrinking handicap of 18 as well as scoring an eagle three on the par five 10th hole.
A total of 14 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with both John Scale and Brian Webster getting a pair each.
Paul Kaye scored the two nearest the pins on the 4th & 8th holes but was unable to covert both of those.
Michael Banger won Mondays B Grade event by a countback from Ron Zomer with a score of 40 points, whilst Rich Paton got the A Grade victory, also by a countback from Williams with a score of 38 points. Next Saturday is a game of single Stableford and the Garfield Open Tournament to come a week after.
