GARFIELD GOLF

There was severe heat to start the week but it all changed quickly with a huge thunderstorm coming through on Tuesday and knocking out the power in the Garfield neck of the woods for 25 hours.

Things eventually returned to normality with Thursdays’ golfers enjoying the magnificent sunny weather with not even a zephyr of wind in play.

Trevor Thompson’s month of consistent play – with recent rounds of 38 and 41 points – came to the fore again by winning Thursdays’ A Grade event with a score of 40 points.

This included an eagle three on the par-five first.

Chris Thorn also eagled the first, while Tym Davey did likewise on the 17th.

James Grant broke a run of outs by getting the B Grade win with a score of 38 points while Tim Jones won the C Grade event with a round of 40 points.

A final score of 33 points to a countback was the number to finish in the money.

Tym Davey scored four birdies for his round, if you don’t mind umpire, to go with his round of 38 points playing off his mark of plus-one.

Saturday was the ‘Top Town’ four-person team event which, as per usual, is played as an aggregate stableford event.

Coming out on top with a final score of 153 points was Ben Barrett, Ricky Morales, Matt Whitehead and reigning monthly medalist Bruce Styles.

Finishing runners up with a final score of 147 points were Peter Marquis, Stephen Bird, Craig Metcalf and a red-hot Kelvin Rhodes.

A huge field of 163 punters turned out on Saturday for the single stableford event with Stephen Pimm having a magnificent 45 points to get the D Grade win.

Tim Cornell won the A Grade event with a nice round of 42 points, while Pieter Van Der Horst – not seen for a while – got the B Grade win with the same score.

Graham White rounded out winner’s list with the C Grade victory with a score of 41 points.

Robert Murphy can console himself with a $5 down the line prize for his round of 42 points.

A final score of 35 points to a countback was required to feature in the money which was achieved by some 51 players.

A total of 21 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 11th and 13th giving up five each of those.

Tym Davey, for good measure, scored another pair.

A good field of 61 played on Monday with Chris Kondarios having the best of it by getting the A Grade victory with a round of 41 points, while Dale Leggett won the B Grade comp on a count back from Chris James with a signed-for card of 39 points.

A final score of 35 points to a countback was good enough to finish in the money.

This Saturday is the final of the 2024 Top Gun, commencing at 11.15am, with the overflow playing a single stableford event.
