KOOWEERUP BOWLS
Saturday Pennant resumed with the top two teams battling it out at Rosebud Country Club in Division 8 with Kooweerup continuing its “winning streak” with a hard fought 60-49 win to reverse the result from earlier in the season.
After getting off to a good start, Wayne Stevens, Rob Matthews, Rex Alexander and Cam Davey forgot to come out after the break losing 16-20.
Winning ends 14-20 – but only scoring nine shots – Steven Jenkins, Ian Richardson, Jimi Watts and Jim Jenkins had sufficient momentum to win 21-19, despite dropping four shots on the 20th end.
The third rink of Brett Condron, Peter Butera, Bec Watts and Daniel Price built on an early lead to continue their form winning 23-10.
Division 9 travelled to Frankston and were right in the game before losing 30-34.
It was an ordinary day for Margaret Royle, Erin Price, Peter Stevens and Mary Masters who well beaten 10-20.
It was a better result for Tim Katz, Jacqui Butera, Mav Katz and Bryan Walker however, recording a 20-14 win to gain some points.
Tuesday Pennant resumed after a good break over the Christmas/New Year period and Kooweerup’s Division 4 team played host to Blue Hills BC in an important game for both clubs.
Unfortunately, Kooweerup was no match for Blue Hills being defeated 44-76 and losing all three rinks.
In a close game Joy Jenkins, Charles Poulsen, Pauline Gray and Joe Barlow lost narrowly 23-26.
Always “chasing” their opposition, Margaret Royle, Jill Roissetter, Rex Alexander and Helen Ralph were comfortably beaten 11-23.
And getting close and then being overrun late, Jim Jenkins, Cam Davey, Betty King and Stephen Payne were well beaten 10-29.
The weather held off for the club’s Friday Triples to continue after the festive season with the winning combination for the day being Mal Newman, Bob Lamport and Lexie Taylor from Garfield with 33 points.
Runner up rink with 28 points was Ken Harding, Colin Scales and Max Adams from Lang Lang.
Best first game went to Neville Kitchin, John Williams and Kevin Kitchin from Lang Lang on 17 points and best second game was won by Vince Bevilacqua, Lindsay Stevenson and Luis Aguilar from Pakenham on 18 points.
The most touches award was won by Dennis Throup from Phillip Island with nine.
It seems that you need at least nine ‘touches’ to at least be in the running for this coveted competition.
For the first time in many, many years there was only one team that won both games…a very unlikely occurrence.
