PAKENHAM OVER 60s

The rain-affected season of Veterans cricket continued into 2024 on Saturday, with only 13 overs possible in Pakenham’s clash with East Doncaster.

The two teams agreed to play two T20s instead of a longer form fixture to maximise the opportunity of a result, but rain set in too early at East Doncaster’s ground for a result to materialise.

Pakenham skipper Peter Ross chose to bat first, with openers Phil Brook (12 off 20 retired not out) and Carl Muscat laying a foundation in the first seven overs before the rain started to fall.

The moist conditions brought about Muscat’s dismissal, with Greg Johnstone (12 off 20) and David Wright (10 not out off 20) also getting time in the middle before the game was abandoned, with Pakenham 2/45 off 13 overs.

Saturday was the seventh scheduled match for the over-60s competition but Pakenham has completed only three games due to weather.

The veterans will be hoping to get a win on the board on Sunday against Ringwood.
