KOOWEERUP BOWLS

It was a mixed bag of results for Kooweerup Bowls Club this week.

The Saturday Division 8 team bounced back to the winners’ list with a win at home against Mt Eliza with all three rinks having wins in the 71-46 victory.

Down by four shots at the 16th end and hitting the lead on the 19th end, Wayne Stevens, Rob Matthews, Rex Alexander and Jacqui Butera had another close game winning 18-15.

Picking up eight shots in two ends saw Brett Condron, Peter Butera, Bec Watts and Daniel Price also win a close one 21-17.

In front for all but two ends with a 14-9 lead after three ends, the Jenkins cheer squad arrived and Steven and Jim proceeded to play inspired bowls with the assistance of Jimi Watts and Ian Richardson to win 32-14.

Division 9 went to Somerville; a good place to learn for new bowlers on how to play the game on a tricky surface and windy conditions as always.

They were defeated 23-55, but hopefully learnt something for the season ahead.

Both rinks struggled all day with Margaret Royle, Arthur Giaccotto, Peter Stevens and Erin Price losing 13-26.

Kooweerup’s other rink of Tim Katz, Cam Davey, Mav Katz and Mel Alexander lost 10-29.

Playing back at home next week should help the team.

On Tuesday Division 4 travelled to Blue Hills BC and was comprehensively beaten 46-76.

This result saw Kooweerup slip to seventh position after four rounds.

Kooweerup had one winning rink with Trevor Kitchin, Margaret Royle, Pauline Gray and Julie Walker scoring a 25-19 victory.

It was a difficult day for the Jenkin’s family with Joy Jenkins, Betty King, Gary King and Steve Payne going down 13-28.

Unable to reach double figures for the day Jim Jenkins, Charles Poulsen, Jill Roissetter and Joe Barlow were well beaten 8-29.
