CARDINIA WATERS BOWLS

Midweek Report

Cardinia Waters had a mixed day on the bowling greens last Tuesday.

Side one played against Noble Park on their new grass green, and suffered a heavy loss in what could be described as gale force winds.

Only one rink garnered a win, with John Van Vugt skipping the team of Del Dance, Len Judge and Cathy Swinkels.

Their score of 33-15 had many multiples including one seven and one six.

Most village players haven’t seen a turf green since last season, and without a practice game on grass were found wanting in the difficult conditions provided by Mother Nature.

The final score of 54-76 leaves Cardinia Waters side one outside the four, and next week they play Pakenham at home.

Pakenham had a win at Keysborough’s expense this week and a hard-fought game next week will be expected.

Cardinia Waters side two played at home in similar conditions, but against Burden Park.

They won fairly easy in the end however still dropped one rink.

In great form was the rink of Stuart Tokely, John Carr, Therese and Peter Mitchell who won very impressively with a score of 48-6.

This win included one seven, a five and many multiple scoring ends.

Joining them on the winning list was the rink of Steve Hale, Michele Bondfield, Bryan Stevens and Graeme Taylor who scored 21-15.

The overall final score was 84-48, and the village side now holds down second spot on the ladder.

Next week they play an away game against Berwick.

Saturday Report

There was red ink all over the score-cards in the Cranbourne v Cardinia Waters game last Saturday.

In a disastrous day Cranbourne won all four rinks, and sent Cardinia Waters plummeting down the ladder into seventh place after just two games this season.

Previously Cranbourne had received a big thrashing from Ferntree Gully, but have claimed unavailable players may have caused that.

Berwick defeated Ferntree Gully in a close game this week.

In other games this week, Narre Warren claimed top spot as the only undefeated team in this competition after defeating Noble Park, and Churchill Waverley Golf beat Upwey Tecoma.

Next week Cardinia Waters are at home to ladder leaders Narre Warren.

They will need a form turnaround to defeat Narre Warren.

That club has recruited well this season and is surfing on the crest of a wave.
