Records tumbling at Pakenham

Pakenham Little Athletics is seeing centre records tumble at an exciting rate as the young guns of the sport hit the ground running, jumping and throwing into the summer season.

It’s been a massive two weeks for Pakenham, who recently moved to its new track on Henry Road after a long proud history on the grass track at Toomuc Reserve in Pakenham.

Shae Langley has had a wonderful fortnight on the track.

The exciting athlete broke the Under-17 Girls Shot Put record last week, smashing the previous record of 6.93 metres with a new mark of 7.27m.

Shae then broke the Triple Jump record with a hop, skip and a jump of 8.78m, and then threw the javelin 17.01 metres to break that record as well.

That’s three centre records in two weeks!

Not to be outdone are Felicity Buza and Liam Piccolo, who recently broke some long-standing records at the club.

Felicity flew over the high-jump bar at a height of 1.51m to shatter the previous Under-13 Girls mark of 1.39m set all the way back in 2012.

Liam then timed his turn and launch to perfection, to throw the discuss 36.08m to break the Under-16 Boys record by 13 centimetres.

The young athletes have been working hard with specialised training over the off-season…and the rewards are paying off handsomely!
