Green emerges after heavy rain at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

Well, you can’t say we weren’t warned.

After a couple of months of warm and dry weather, the forecast of flooding rains duly arrived on Tuesday and resulted in up to 75mm falling in 48 hours.

This forced the club’s hand to ban the use of golf carts for Thursdays’ competition whilst the scheduled green coring still went ahead.

Monday’s event got the last of the good weather with a field of 56 logging on for a start.

Leo De Jager got the A Grade win with a better than handicap result of 38 points winning by a countback from Jim Accettura.

Alex Green had the day’s best round of 40 points to get the B Grade win.

With carts out of play on Thursday, a field of just the 27 punters lined up for a game with Stephen Eddy having the best round with the A Grade winning score of 40 points, defeating Mick Matthews – yet another second place – for the day’s only Grade.

A final score of 34 points back to a countback was the number required to finish in the money.

Saturday was a game of single par and was played in fine and mild conditions with a field of 108 players keen for a game after missing out on Thursday.

Ryan Stark was streets ahead of everyone else, easily posting the day’s best round by winning the A Grade event with a total of plus 10…seven shots clear of the next best in Paul Govaars and Doug Amos.

Rex Turner had the day’s best B Grade round getting the win by a countback decision from Hank Adams with a score of plus 5.

The C Grade event was a three-way countback with the three gents posting scores of plus 2, but it was Steve Kohut Snr getting the judges’ nod.

A final score of -1 was required to finish in the money.

A total of 34 players, a good result, were able to beat or play to their handicap.

The West Gippsland Veterans tour returns to Drouin on 16 October with entries to be with John by the 11 October.

The annual East Gippy verses West Gippy event is scheduled for contest at Traralgon on 6 November with entries required to be lodged by Wednesday 1 November.

For details, as usual, check the notice board in the gents wash room.

This Saturday is the October Monthly Medal.
