Huge grand final week at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

Grand final week was huge at Garfield Golf Club with events on every day except Wednesday…so there was no excuse to not get involved, particularly with the superb weather with Saturday getting up to 30 degrees.

Andrew Hale kicked things off on Sunday with the A Grade winning round of 40 points playing off his mark of 11.

Helen Aurish had the week’s bet round on Tuesday – Ladies Day – with a very nice winning score of 43 points defeating Daphne Elleman by two points.

On Thursday a field of 90 players enjoyed the conditions with a total of 22 participants being able to play to or better than their handicap.

The big ‘H’, Harry Matthews, turned it on by breaking a run of outs to get the A Grade win with a score of 41 points.

Harry was playing off his mark of just nine which meant he actually played to a handicap of four.

Trevor Male, having a nice week, and Peter Medwin, returning to some good form, finished equal second with scores of 39 points.

Graeme Durran, yet another new name, got the B Grade win by a countback score of 38 points from Terry McLaughlin.

Terry Bull, on the back of good finish in the mid-week championships, got the C Grade win with a score of 40 points, one point clear of David Thorp.

A final score of 35 points or better back to a countback was the number required to finish in the money.

The aforementioned McLaughlin scored two birdies for his round.

Friday’s public holiday attracted a field of 75 punters with a handicap round of 36 points required to finish in the money. Curtiss Duffy won the A Grade event with a great round of 42 points whilst Amanda McLure won the B Grade event with a good round of 41 points.

Andrew Went had a handicap beating score of 38 points playing of a respectable mark of nine, which also included an eagle three on the par-five first hole.

Craig Hunter scored a pair of birdies for his round as well as a nearest the pin on the 11th hole.

Clint Williams and Matt Van Der Horst, both with handicaps of eight, finished in the money with rounds of 37 points.

On Saturday a field of 89 turned out with Brenton Hollingworth having a day out with the best round of a C Grade winning score of 42 points.

Clint Williams, having a great long weekend, won the A Grade event with a great round of 40 points playing off his mark of seven.

It would appear obvious that Williams, set to play Peter McNeish in the Match Play final will take a lot of stopping for the title.

Graham White won the B Grade event with a score of 39 points.

All members and guests are advised that the club is pleased to announce the 2023 Sponsors Day, three-person ambrose event, is to be held on Saturday 28 October.

The day is all about recognising the sponsors and volunteers that support the club during the year.

At a cost of $120 per team, which includes an all-day BBQ and restricted to a total of 40 teams, this event – as per usual – is sure to be yet another sell-out Garfield event.

That is open to all players with a current GA handicap.

Enquire and or enter at the club.

Next Saturday is a game of single par.
