No rain leaves Ross revelling at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

The weather this week was absolutely superb for whatever outdoor activity of your choosing and the Garfield golf course is really drying out right now.

We had just 55mm of August rain compared to 146mm for the same period last year…that is the reason why.

Matt Ross had a huge week, winning A Grade on Thursday with 41 points then turned out on Saturday winning the monthly medal from Ryan Stark on a countback with a great score of nett 65.

Stark’s round got him the B Grade win whilst Scott Hathaway won the D Grade event with a round of 68.

Kelvin Rhodes took out C Grade via a countback from Rex Turner with a final score of nett 71.

A final score of nett 74 was the number required to finish in the money.

Best A Grade Scratch result was achieved by Tym Davey with a great round of 73 whilst Stark took out the B Grade Scratch score with a round of 80.

Rhodes had the best C Grade Scratch round with a final score of 89.

Cam McCormick took out the D Grade Scratch with a round of 94 on a countback.

Just six players were able to play to or better than their handicap.

A total of 16 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 14th giving up six of those.

On Thursday, yet another great sunny day, a field of 91 presented for play.

The aforementioned Ross won the A Grade event by a point from a very much in-form Jack Henning by a single shot.

Henning also finished runner up last Thursday with an equally impressive round of 39 points playing off his mark of just 10.

Harry Huyskens returned to the winner’s circle, winning the B Grade event on a countback from Mark Cousin with a score of 38 points.

Terry Bull was victorious for the C Grade event with a final score of 38 points.

A final score of 33 points back to a countback was required to finish in the money.

A total of 15 players were able to play or better their handicap, and just five birdies were scored for the day on the par threes.

Colin Crowle won Monday’s A Grade stableford event with a fine round of 39 points, one shot to the better of a red-hot Bob Calderara.

Lionel Mahoney, a visitor from Lang Lang, won the B Grade event with a handicap round of 36 points.

A final score of 33 points or better was required to feature in the money.

The West Gippy Vets tour returns to Mirboo North on Monday 2 October playing a special rainbow tees event via an 8.30am shot-gun start.

I think we know what that means!

Notice re this event is on Men’s washroom notice board.

Finally, it would be remiss of me not to mention a certain player from last Thursday week.

A former long-term committee member, can’t mention his name due to the privacy act, scored the grand total of five points for his front nine – which included a par-four for three points on the third.

This equals the lowest tally scored for at least the last 30 years.

Now that is bizarre!
