A Gray day at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

There were a few showers about earlier in the week but the main golfing days of Thursday and Saturday were fine and mild at Garfield Golf Club this week.

The spotlight goes right on Nick Gray this week, on account of his brilliance last Sunday where he prevailed with a round of 40 points playing off his mark of seven.

This meant he actually played to a handicap of just three, easily winning by some four points from Darren Grayson.

Fresh off his match-play quarter-final victory the week before, Gray also scored four nearest the pins which he converted into four birdies.

Great round Nick.

On Saturday a field of 119 patrons turned out for a game of single stableford with a signed for round of 32 points or better good enough to finish in the money.

Gary Tivendale produced the day’s best result winning the C Grade event with a score of 42 points, one clear of the unlucky Mick Matthews in second place.

John Hoare got the B Grade victory with a nice round of 40 points, two points in advance of Harry Thomas in the runners up stall.

Ray Pund, returning to his favorite time of the year, had the A Grade win with 37 points, one clear of Harry Elyasie and Craig Hobson also finishing in the placings. The course gave up just seven birdies for the day on the par threes.

On Thursday a field of 84 presented with the overall scoring very much of an average outcome.

The overall spread, from the best round of 38 points to a down the line prize of 33 points, showed just how close the finishing results were.

Best in for the day with the B Grade win was Ash Graham with a score of 38 points one point to the better of Chris Kondarios in second place.

Craig Hobson, having a good week of it, won the A grade event with a round of 37 points one point to the better of Graeme Pretty in second place.

Don Towan won the C Grade event with a final score of 37 points, one point better than Michael Banger.

Next Saturday is a game of single stableford whilst the club will host its 2023 AGM at approximately 2pm with lunch to be supplied by the club.
