Firsts outplayed but joy for lower grades

Pakenham’s senior men have gone down 7-0 in a disappointing loss against Mentone at home on Friday night.

The club was, however, buoyed by the reserves getting their second win of the season.

Like the seniors, the reserves have struggled in 2023, but managed to get up 4-2 against the visitors.

The win was highlighted by a 40-yard screamer to striker Mark Howard, who created opportunities upfront all night.

The thirds also had a win, with Pakenham edging away from Officer 5-2 in an intense local derby.

Meanwhile, Casey was made to work but was eventually able to overcome Mount Eliza 5-1.

The first half was an arm wrestle, with the Panthers able to put only one goal on the board, before it opened up after the break.

Bunyip, meanwhile, defeated the struggling Barton on forfeit.

Results: Pakenham 0 v Mentone 7, Bunyip v Barton (forfeit), Mount Eliza 1 v Casey 5, Rosebud 0 v Aspendale 0.

Ladder: Hampton Park 47, Mentone 33, Aspendale 32, Rosebud 29, Bunyip 29, Seaford 28, Casey 26, Mount Martha 25, Mount Eliza 13, Pakenham 9, Barton 1.
