GARFIELD GOLF
Richard Perry’s performance over the last three Mondays has been one of consistent winning excellence, playing off single figures – reduced from 9 to 7 handicap – with three outstanding results.
Three Mondays ago, he won with 39 points and backed that up two weeks ago with a winning round of 38 points.
He then finished runners up this Monday with a result of 40 points which meant he played to a handicap of just four.
Then to finally confirm his handicap Perry came out on Saturday and had a handicap round of 36 points. Saturday was cold and windy with a great size field of 143 players with Daniel Schmidt having the best round with a D Grade winning score of 40 points.
Andrew Rose broke a run of outs with the A Grade win by scoring 37 points just the one point to the better of a red-hot Peter McNeish.
Ryan Stark won the B Grade event with a round of 37 points whilst Peter Kelly took out the C Grade event with day’s second-best round of 39 points.
A final score of 33 points back to a count back was the number required to finish in the money.
The course gave up 20 birdies on the par threes with the 14th giving up seven whilst the 16th gave up a total of eight.
Another good size field of 84 contested Thursday’s event and was played in typical winter conditions. Bob Calderara, on the back of a good form surge, was the best in with an A Grade winning result of 38 points whilst Marcus Crossley won the B Grade event with a handicap round of 36 points.
John Roberts had the C Grade win with a final score of 34 points by a count back decision from Stephen Birch.
A final score of just 32 points or better back to a count back was good enough for a ball down the line. Just the six birdies were scored for the round on the par threes.
The Public Holiday Monday attracted a field of 88 punters with the overall scoring standard the best for the week for the three grades up for decision.
Chris Naughton had a day out winning the A Grade event with a nice round of 41 points playing to a handicap of just seven to defeat the aforementioned Richard Perry, whilst Reg Beyer had a handicap beating round with the B Grade victory score of 39 points.
Stephen Bird scored another win by getting the job done for the C Grade event by also scoring the 39 points.
A final score of a handicap round of 36 points was needed to get a ball down the line.
Karli Van Der Horst, Garfield’s most winning player, got another win with a Tuesday result of 37 points. Next Saturday is a game of single stableford.
