Jeffrey hits the jackpot at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF CLUB

Thursday’s golfers got the best of the weather at Garfield Golf Club this week whilst on Saturday the gauge barely made it into single figures.

A huge dump of rain on Wednesday certainly has cleared our greens of any remaining coring sand.

A field of 95 players lined up on Saturday for the May Monthly Medal with a final score of nett 72 required to finish in the money.

Jake Jeffrey was the best in with a four-under-par nett round of 65 good enough to get the job done by one shot from a consistent recent player in Darren McKerrow.

Clint Williams had the best A Grade scratch round with a score of 75 whilst Peter Johnson broke a run of outs by winning the B Grade scratch event on a count back with a score of 87.

Scott Corbett took out the win for the C Grade scratch event with a score of 89.

A total of 21 birdies were achieved for the day through the course 18 with Nick Gray converting his two nearest the pins on the 14th and 16th into birdies.

On Thursday a field of 74 enjoyed the mild and clear conditions with a final score of 33 points back to a count back needed to get a ball down the line.

Don Towan was easily the best in with a C Grade winning score of 40 points, three points better than Stephen Murray who won the A Grade event with a score of 37 points.

Harry Huyskens broke a long run of outs by winning the B Grade event, also with a round of 37 points. Stephen Birch finished in 74th place with a final score of five points for his 18!

A good size field of 50 players came out for a game on Monday with Les Reynolds having the best round with a B Grade win of 40 points.

Heath Barclay had a handicap-beating round playing off single figures to get the A Grade win with a score of 38 points.

All members are hereby advised that the over 55’s event scheduled for play on May 15 is cancelled due to the event clashing with the Traralgon Vets Day.

It has been rebooked for play on 18 September.

For those wishing to play the Traralgon event all carts are gone so it is walkers and own cart use only. For Deep Creek ex-members your delegate will still enter you for this event but you must be providing a Garfield Golf Link Number.

Next Saturday is the first round of the Men’s 4Ball Par Championships.
