Naylor tops class at Cardinia Waters

CARDINIA WATERS BOWLS

Cardinia Waters bowler Ray Naylor topped off a great year on the bowling green, when he was awarded the David Blake Medal at the Club’s recent awards night.

Named after the late David Blake – who was himself an excellent bowler and bowls administrator – the medal is awarded to the Club Person of the Year.

It is chosen by the members by ballot.

On the same night, Ray received awards for his prowess on the bowling green.

In the 2023 season Ray won the Men’s Singles Championship, Mixed Pairs Championship (with his wife Jill) and the 100-up handicap singles.

He also fills the important role as Greens Director, and keeps the bowling green in excellent condition.

Other members receiving awards at the Cardinia Waters Bowls Club presentation evening were Kerry Lewis, who won the Ladies Singles Championship.

Alan Curtis and John Moore were Open Pairs Champions and Robert Mitchell won the Minor Championship.

Another important event on the Cardinia Waters Bowling Calendar is the Summer Triples.

Trophies and prize money were presented to teams placed in the finals.

Bill Hite’s team won first prize, he was partnered by Lydia Knight and Alan Curtis.

Three bowling members were awarded with Veteran Badges on presentation evening.

The recipients were Stuart Tokely, Jim Barrie and John Carr.

Another happy group of bowlers were Len Judge, Gary Bondfield, Dennis Patmore and Paul Brindle. The received pins recognising their perfect eight score during the last bowls season.

Cardinia Waters bowlers are reminded the Annual General Meeting of the Club will be held on Monday, May 15 at 1:00pm, in the Village Clubhouse.

Three Committee position are vacant, along with various sub-committee positions.
