‘Kiwi’ O’Dwyer revels in wet conditions

DEEP CREEK GOLF

After a massive three weeks of feeling the pressure of Club Championship golf – there was a more sedate feel to the stableford competition played in wet conditions at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday.

Drizzling rain made life uncomfortable and difficult for most players, with Kiwi Murray O’Dwyer (17) enjoying conditions that resembled his homeland…scoring 34 points to win the only competition for the day.

Blaze Bester (38) was runner up with 33 points.

On a day where points were at a premium, down the line balls went to Glenn Rees, Colin Maclean and Brett Nowlan with 30 points, and to Roger Parker, David Leek, Grant Wilson and Colin Crowle with 29 points.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd hole: Harry Elyasie (2.10m) and 16th hole: Murray O’Dwyer (0.90m).

Unlike Saturday, there was great scoring to kick off the week on Monday with David McMahon putting together a very healthy scorecard of 40 points to win by two shots from runner up Daryl O’Grady.

Down the lines went to David Kemsley 37, Philip Mott 36, Christopher James and Peter Diss 34, Pat Ellerton 33, and to Harry Bolotin, Levi Sua, Tom Mc Dermott and Julie Cheng with 32 points.

Nearest the pin went to 2nd: Levi Sua (60cm).

Midweek Club Champion Harry Elyasie continues to shine against the Wednesday golfers, this time scoring 40 points for a one-shot A Grade victory over Tony Sheahan.

Ron Parsons won B Grade with 38 points; one shot clear of Les Jones on 37.

Down the lines went to players who all played to their handicaps, with Roger Parker and Murray O’ Dwyer 38, Angie Peluso 37, and the veteran trio of Stephen Northcott, Terry Bull and Ronald Zomer with 36 points all getting a prize at the end of the day’s play.

The SuperComp Back 9 winner was Northcott with 24 points.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: William Carmichael (1.6m) and 16th Hole: Levi Sua (1.45m).

The Ladies enjoyed nice conditions on Thursday to play round one of the 2023 Ladies 4BBB Challenge.

The winners were Leah Barker and Shirley McGrath with 42 points, from runners up Liz Garvey and Kay Jones with 41 points.

Down the lines went to Bev Clymo and Ginny Carter with 40 points, while the nearest the pin went to Leanne Barker (10cm) on the second hole.

And the golfing week finished off in cool and chilly conditions on Easter Sunday with Matt Yousuf (17) the best of a small field of contenders, scoring 30 points to take home the choccies.
